About Wayne B. Smith, Inc.

River barge hauling rock

A Strategic Riverfront Location

Located at Mississippi River Mile Marker 282 in Louisiana, MO, our operations serve a vital role in moving goods across the Midwest. With direct access to barge, rail, and highway, our facility has become a crucial intermodal link for manufacturers, material suppliers, and shipping partners from Quincy to St. Louis.

A Family Business Built on the River

A Little History of Wayne B. Smith

What began as a small sawmill in 1955 has grown into one of the most versatile barge terminals and material handling operations on the Mississippi River. Founded by Wayne B. Smith after relocating from Memphis to Louisiana, Missouri, our company’s story is one of deep roots, hard work, and river-based innovation.

By 1964, Wayne had expanded operations to include a rock quarry, creating a dual offering of terminal logistics and aggregate supply. Today, Wayne B. Smith, Inc. remains proudly family-owned and operated, continuing to build on the legacy that started with a handshake and a commitment to service.

What Sets Us Apart

Full-Service Flexibility

Unlike many regional competitors, we offer both a privately owned barge terminal and an active quarry operation. Our terminal isn’t restricted by product type or client.

Longtime River Expertise

We’ve built a trusted reputation through decades of safe, efficient barge loading, unloading, and support services. With 36 dedicated team members and a fleet of towboats, we’re built for scale but keep our service personal.

Custom Solutions, Personal Touch

Being a smaller, family-owned operation means we can offer customized material handling and storage solutions while remaining responsive and relationship-focused.

A Unique Combination of Services in One Riverfront Facility

Wayne B. Smith, Inc. offers something few regional competitors can match: the combined strength of a full-service barge terminal, an active quarry operation, and sand and gravel services, all with direct access to the Mississippi River, rail, and highway transportation.

This combination gives our partners flexibility across every stage of their operation, from unloading and storage to processing and distribution. With decades of experience and a strategic location at Mississippi River Mile 282, Wayne B. Smith serves as a dependable hub for manufacturers, barge lines, contractors, and material suppliers across the Quincy–St. Louis region.
